Naples, FL – March 2015
Advanced Software Products Group (ASPG) has released version 2.4.1 of their ERQ (Easy RACF Query) software. ERQ simplifies the task of administering IBM’s RACF access-security system through the provision of a fully customizable API, the automation of common RACF functions, the capability for RACF analysts to create their own custom applications via a set of straightforward ISPF services, and other functionality that allows ERQ users to better administer their RACF installation with little to no learning curve.
The latest enhancements to ERQ are designed to increase the efficiency and productivity for RACF administrators by providing faster processing, more reporting options, simplified data management, and automatic generation of SETROPTS REFRESH commands. The new release also incorporates the new IBM special character set now permitted in passwords, as well as changes for mixed case passwords.
ERQ version 2.4.1 introduces a new feature for the RACF administrator to dynamically swap between snapshots of data extracted from the RACF system. This new extract-management interface organizes extracted RACF data and enables dynamic swapping among up to four sets of RACF data used to generate reports. In previous versions of ERQ, the user could only enter one set of extract files at a time to be used for reporting. This enhancement also allows administrators to easily determine the date and time the Extract files were created and which set of extract file is active.
Other updated screens in ERQ v2.4.1 are the User and Group Summary Report screens. With the addition of the new line command ‘A’ (Alter), ERQ v2.4.1 allows the end user a fast path to the Alter User or Alter Group screen, automatically populating the ID or GROUP field with the selected ID or GROUP name. Once changes, such as revoke user ID or update user authority, have been completed, ERQ allows end users to return to the list of IDs or GROUPs and make another selection rather than sending them back to the main menu.
A command processing update to ERQ is the automatic generation of SETROPTS REFRESH commands. RACF requires certain PROFILES be refreshed from the database into storage when changed. ERQ v2.4.1 now automatically generates the necessary SETROPTS REFRESH commands for RACF required in-storage profiles, eliminating additional steps for RACF administrators.
